MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan University volleyball team was honored for its excellence in the classroom as the Cardinals earned a 2018-19 Team Academic Award by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
Wesleyan concluded the 2018-19 academic year with a team GPA of 3.31. Additionally, five Cardinals were named to the NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team earlier in the season; Olivia Guidotti, Nicole Hilton, Stasie Litinsky, Madeleine Lundberg, and Kaira Muraoka-Robertson.
The Cardinals also excelled on the court in 2018 and reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III Championships for the first time in program history. They finished the season with a 20-6 record and 9-1 NESCAC mark, and will open the 2019 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 7 at home.
