MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Freshman Harper Graves totaled 10 kills with an incredible .667 hitting percentage to help lead the Wesleyan University volleyball team to a decisive 3-0 sweep over Trinity College Friday night in Silloway Gymnasium. The Cardinals, who improve to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in the NESCAC, won by scores of 25-14, 25-20, 25-18 to drop the Bantams to 6-5 overall and 0-3 in league play.

  • Wesleyan was in control for most of the first two sets. In the first game, the Cardinals rattled off seven unanswered points to take a 12-5 lead, and never looked back. Nicole Hilton '20 hit the winning kill off an assist from Grace Rose '21.
  • The momentum carried over into the second set, as Wesleyan pulled away early and looked poised to run away with the game. A kill from Gabby Bennett '20 put the home team ahead, 22-9. However, Trinity wouldn't back down as the Bantams rallied by scoring 11 of the next 12 points to cut the deficit to four, 24-20. Fallon Konow '20 eventually sealed the win with a kill to end the scare.
  • The third game went back-and-forth early on until a 4-1 run by Wesleyan, capped off by a kill from Robi Frederick '21, gave the home team a 14-10 advantage. The Cardinals increased their lead from that point on en route to a seven-point win.

  • Graves now has double-digit kills in four of the last seven matches. She was joined on the offensive attack by Hilton who finished with eight kills and a .312 hitting percentage.
