Win Streak Continues; Cardinals Cruise Past Hamilton, 3-0

CLINTON, N.Y. – Sophomores Stasie Litinsky and Nicole Hilton recorded 11 kills each with a .769 and .643 hitting percentage, respectively, while classmate Kaira Muraoka-Robertson dished out 40 assists to lead the Wesleyan University volleyball team to its seventh-consecutive win Saturday afternoon in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-12) sweep of Hamilton College.

With the win, the Cardinals improve to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the NESCAC, while the Continentals drop to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in league play.


  • Wesleyan came out strong, recording 17 team kills in the first set. Hilton led a 5-0 run midway through the first with back-to-back kills, and an attack error by the home team gave the Cardinals a 19-9 lead. Robi Frederick '21 would put the set away with a kill off an assist from Phia Bellizzi '21.
  • The second set was a different story. Tied at 10-10, Hamilton went on a 5-0 run of its own. Shortly after, trailing 17-13, the Cardinals scored five unanswered points as Hilton put the visitor's on top, 18-17. Wesleyan scored seven of the final nine points of the set as a kill from Litinsky gave Wesleyan a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • Hamilton scored the first two points of the third frame, but the Cardinals responded by scoring 10 of the next 11 en route to a convincing victory (25-12).


  • Defensively, the Cardinals were led by Bellizzi with 21 digs and Madeleine Lundberg '19 with 10. As a team, Wesleyan had 12 block assists.
  • Harper Graves '21 and Frederick added eight and seven kills, respectively. Wesleyan totaled 45 for the match with a .262 hitting percentage.
  • The Continentals were led by Erin Donahue and Giuliana Rankin with four kills each, while Emma Parkhurst dished out 15 assists and registered seven digs. Christine Zizzi totaled a team-high 13 digs.
  • Hamilton struggled offensively, recording just 19 kills on 102 attempts and 22 errors for a -.029 attack mark.


  • Wesleyan is back in action Thursday, Sept. 21 and will host its 2017 home opener against Conn. College (7 p.m.).
