The Lead: The Wesleyan University women's soccer team used goals by four different players to help them seal a 4-0 victory over Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinals once again controlled the tempo at home, allowing just three Albertus Magnus shots.

  • Wesleyan got on the board early as Sarah Sylla '17 took an Ella Sinfield '19 pass and found the back of the net just 5:08 into the match.
  • Just over five minutes later, at 10:42, Chrissy Gonzalez-Gandolfi '17 set up Sinfield who got it past the Falcons goalkeeper, Lexie Fenn, to give the home team the two goal advantage.
  • Like the did in the first half, Wesleyan struck quickly in the second half, as Nicole Brodkowitz '20 put a header past Fenn off a pass from Tess Daggett-Edenholm '17. That goal put the Cardinals ahead 3-0.
  • Just a few minutes later, Gonzalez-Gandolfi notched her first career goal, as she scored off the rebound from a Victoria Matthews '17 header, which sealed the 4-0 Cardinal victory.

  • Wesleyan held the advantage in shots, outshooting the Falcons by a 16-3 margin. Nine of the Cardinals shots were on net, while the staunch Wesleyan defense allowed zero shots on net.
  • The Cardinals also held the edge in corner kicks at 4-3.

  • "Mission accomplished. The goal was to get some early goals in today, and we accomplished that," said Meredith. "Psychologically it matters so much who scores the first goal and we got it today, and then we were able to put a couple more in after that."

  • Wesleyan will return to action on Saturday, September 17 when they host NESCAC foe Bowdoin at 11 a.m.
  • Albertus will return to the field on Saturday as well, as they will play Simmons at 1 p.m.
