MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The Wesleyan women's hockey team opened it's 2018-19 season with a 3-0 victory over Salve Regina University (1-7-1). This was the Cardinals' (1-0-0) third-straight win over the Seahawks, as they held a commanding 31-17 shots advantage during the contest.

  • Salve had a great chance to score at the 7:15 mark of the first period, but Wesleyan goalie Allegra Grant denied Carley Bauckham's shot with a glove save.
  • The Cardinals opened the scoring 13:03 in on a power play. Sarah Takahashi collected the puck behind the Seahawk goal, before sending a pass to Kendall Carr at the top of the left faceoff circle. Carr sent a pass into the slot where Sydnee Goyer one-timed the puck into the goal for the 1-0 advantage.
  • Salve skated five-on-three after back-to-back Wesleyan penalties at the 16:24 and 17:10 marks, but the Cardinals were able to kill off both, preserving their one-goal edge.
  • After a scoreless second period, the Wesleyan had a good change to add a tally at the 2:22 mark of the third period. Carr passed the puck back to Grace Keogh, but Keogh's hard shot sailed just wide of the goal.
  • Salve's Mikayla Anderson had an opportunity to knot the game at the 7:43 mark, but her wraparound shot was denied by Grant.
  • The Cardinals extended their lead to two (2-0) at the 9:34 mark. Ally Detre beat a defender after a long pass from Allie Damren, before finding the back for her first career-goal.
  • At the 13:58 mark Wesleyan's Sarah Goss hit a hard shot from the top of the right faceoff circle, extending the lead to 3-0.

  • Grant picked up the win in goal for the Cardinals, making 17 stops, while Jennifer O'Connell had 31 saves for the Seahawks.

  • The Cardinals travel to UMASS-Boston on Saturday and Sunday for the Codfish Bowl Tournament, with the hosts as their first opponent at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
