Location: Middletown, Conn. (Spurrier-Snyder Rink)
Date: Saturday, January 28th
Time: 3 p.m.
The Lead: Taking part in 'Pink in the Rink Day' the Wesleyan University women's ice hockey team played the visiting Bowdoin Polar Bears to tough 0-0 tie on Saturday afternoon.

  • The two teams played a scoreless first period with the Cardinals holding a slight edge in shots at 9-8.
  • In the second period, Wesleyan would have a two skater advantage, and Kendall Carr '19 would get a few good shots on goal, but they were turned away by Kerri St. Denis and the visitors would hold the Cardinals scoreless.
  • Bowdoin would also get good scoring changes in the period off the sticks of Maureen Greason and Marissa Fitchter, but Allegra Grant '20 and the Cardinals defense would ensure the puck did not find the back of the net as the two teams would play yet another period of scoreless hockey.
  • Jess Brennan '17 would have two excellent scoring chances in the third, the first was a shot on the power play that St. Denis turned away and the other was a wrap-around chance, but St. Denis kept her skate on the post and kept the puck out of the net.
  • Once again both defenses did their jobs and the NESCAC foes would head to overtime tied at zero.
  • Both teams had solid chances to come away with the win in OT, the Cardinals best chances came from Jackie Kilar '19, Cici Frattasio '18 and Alicia Nickolenko '20, while the Polar Bears best chance came from Tala Glass.
  • Neither team could get a puck past Grant or St. Denis, and the game wound end in a 0-0 tie.

  • Grant turned away all 26 shots she saw in the game.
  • St. Denis made 31 saves.

  • The Cardinals will return to the ice on Friday, February 3rd as they will host Middlebury for a weekend series. Friday's game will begin at 7 p.m.
  • The Polar Bears will take on Hamilton next weekend, beginning with a 7 p.m. game on Friday, Feb. 3rd.
