MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Former Wesleyan women's basketball star Tara Berger '19 will continue her playing career in Europe as she has signed with Hapoel Petah Tikva in Israel's Division I - the top league in Israel.

The league features several WNBA and NCAA Division I players, while the balance of the rosters are filled with players from Israel or other countries. The season begins in mid-October and runs through March, as Hapoel Petah Tikva hopes to return to the playoffs for the second year in a row. The league also consists of 10 teams throughout Israel.

Berger had an excellent senior season for the Cardinals as she led the NESCAC in both rebounds and blocks. She averaged 12.0 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, and 1.2 assists per game. Berger also recorded 10 double-doubles in 2018-19 and had four games with 15 or more rebounds. For her career, Berger totaled 927 points, 741 rebounds, 178 blocks, and 92 assists.

In the summer of 2017, Berger represented the United States of America at the 20th Maccabiah Games and helped guided the team to a Gold medal. The games were hosted at Jerusalem's Teddy Stadium and featured roughly 10,000 Jewish and Israeli athletes from over 80 countries. She competed in all five games of the tournament and averaged 6.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game as USA went 4-1.
