Women's Basketball Falls to Williams in Non-Conference Action, 67-49

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Caleigh Ryan scored a team-high 13 points on Saturday but the Wesleyan University women's basketball team lost a non-conference Little Three game to Williams, 67-49. 

Ryan was 5-of-10 from the floor and was joined in double-figures by Olivia Gorman who dropped 11 points. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 4-2 on the year. The Ephs got 20 points from Emily Chang as they improved to 5-4.


  • Williams came out strong and jumped out to a 9-2 lead following a jumper by Lexi Jones.
  • After both teams exchanged baskets, a 3-pointer by Maddie Clark cut the deficit to two at the 1:24 mark.
  • The Ephs, however, closed out the quarter on a 6-1 run to claim a 19-12 advantage at the end of the first.
  • Williams continued to increase its lead in the second as it outscored Wesleyan 19-13 to take a 38-25 lead into the break.


  • The Cardinals got within 10 at the 5:34 mark following a 3-point play by Gorman. However, they couldn't cut the margin to single digits as they trailed 51-39 entering the fourth quarter.
  • The Ephs used a 9-3 run in the first six minutes of the fourth to put the game out of reach as they led 60-42 with 3:53 on the clock.


  • Tara Berger scored nine points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. She also blocked two shots. Chynna Bailey and Ava Tompkins each dished out two assists, and Gorman added eight boards to go along with her 11 points.
  • Chang was 7-of-15 from the floor and 4-of-10 from downtown. She was joined in double-figures by Maggie Meehan and Katie Brule with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Lauren Vostal corralled a game-high 13 rebounds and added eight points, and Jones and Meehan led the team in assists with two each.
  • Despite the loss, Wesleyan held a 26-20 edge in points in the paint and 14-9 advantage in bench points.


  • The Cardinals are off next week and return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 19 as they play in the Exclusive Tournament in Miami, Fla. for a two-day trip. On Wednesday, they face Thomas More at 1 p.m. and on Thursday, Dec. 20 they play Plattsburgh at 11 a.m.
