HADLEY, Mass. – Senior forward Maddie Bledsoe of the Wesleyan University women's basketball team was named the NESCAC Player of the Week for her stellar performance in wins over Springfield (71-61) and Connecticut College (69-64), in which she averaged 14.0 points and 15.5 rebounds per game. It is the second time Bledsoe has been named the player of the week this season.
The Newton, Mass. native opened the week with a nine-point, 10-rebound showing in the win over the Pride. She also dished out four assists and finished 4-of-8 from the floor. Later in the week, Bledsoe went off for 19 points and 21 rebounds as Wesleyan held on to defeat the Camels on the road. The 21 rebounds tie a career-high—she scored 18 points and pulled in 21 boards against Westfield State earlier this year. Additionally, she recorded one block and one assist while going 5-of-10 from the floor, 2-of-4 from downtown and 7-of-10 from the charity stripe.
Bledsoe is having a breakout senior campaign and has six double-doubles in 16 games this season. She currently leads the NESCAC in rebounding, averaging 10.8 per game, and ranks third in field goal percentage with a mark of 55.5%.
The Cardinals own an 11-5 overall record and 2-3 conference mark. They return to action tonight, Jan. 22 and will play at Endicott. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
