Cardinals Host Camels in Season Opener

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's and women's indoor track and field teams hosted in-state NESCAC rival Connecticut College on Friday night in its season and home opener. The meet did not have team scoring, and only featured a selection of track events.


  • Christian Denny opened the season with victories in the 60m (7.14) and the 200m (23.30).
  • Griffin Maristany crossed the finish line in first in the 400m, clocking in at 53.12, while Nick Carulli was first in the 60m hurdles (9.09) and in the long jump (6.36m).
  • Sophomore Noah Olsen placed second in long jump with a mark of 6.27m.
  • Kyron Roberts was the lone runner in the 1000m, registering a time of 2:47.23 for an impressive solo performance.
  • First-year Nigel Hayes placed third in the 200m with a time of 23.99.
  • Elijah Henderson was the lone pole vaulter, registering a height of 3.50m.


  • Rookie Augusta Claire Burhans kicked off her first collegiate race with a first-place finish. Her time of 8.04 in the 60m was also a New England Division III qualifying time.
  • Sophomore Rachel Morrow crossed the finish line first in the 400m, clocking in with a personal best time of 1:03.44.
  • First-year Erika Kluge came in first in the pole vault with a height of 2.90m.  
  • Tara Peng placed first in the high jump (1.47m) and second in the pole vault (2.75m).
  • Three Cardinals placed in the top-four in the 1,000m with Becky Velie taking the crown with a winning time of 3:06.56. Abigail Pipkin followed in second (3:16.36), while Addison Thomas placed fourth (3:23.62).
  • Ivie Uzamere placed first in the weight throw with a mark of 17.08m. and second in the shot put with a mark of 11.68m. Her mark in the weight throw was a qualifying mark for New England and NEICAAA.
  • Wesleyan's 4x400m relay team (Velie, Belle Brown, Morrow and Sofia Pogliano) placed first with a time of 4:18.48.  
  • Caelan Campbell placed third in the 200m with a time of 27.73.


  • The Cardinals are idle until January 11th when they host the Little Three Championship.
