Wesleyan Eases Past Fitchburg State 5-1

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Wesleyan men's soccer team (5-4-3) scored five goals in the second half en route to a 5-1 victory at Fitchburg State (5-6-2) on Wednesday evening. Senior Mike Gallo led the Cardinals with a pair of goals and an assist, as he now leads the team with seven points. 


  • After a scoreless first half, Wesleyan came out of the break strong, opening the scoring at the 49:10 mark when Ben Tardiff one-timed a cross by Sam Keenan for the 1-0 edge.
  • Fitchburg State answered with 61:12 expired when Yannick DePina took advantage of a defensive breakdown, chipping the ball over goaltender Liam Devanny to knot the game 1-1.
  • Wesleyan responded at the 72:18 mark after a corner kick by Steven Perchuk. A Cardinal headed the corner from the left post, before Trevor Devanny one-timed the ball inside the right panel for the 2-1 edge.
  • The Cardinals struck again just 1:12 later when Gallo one-timed a cross from Mason Davisson. Later, Lucas Kimball used his head to redirect a cross by Gallo extending the advantage to 4-1 at the 82:07 mark.
  • Gallo tallied his second goal of the game with 83:13 expired, rifling the ball past Falcon goaltender Sebastian Jaramillo for the 5-1 lead.


  • Wesleyan's Devanny picked up the win in goal, registering four saves.
  • Fitchburg's Jaramillo made seven stops in net.
  • The Cardinals held an advantage in shots (20-9) and corners (11-2) during the triumph.


  • Wesleyan is back in action on Saturday when it heads to Hamilton for a 1:30 p.m. contest.
