Adam Cowie-Haskell '18 and Garrett Hardesty '18 Lead Men's Soccer to a 4-1 Victory Over Swarthmore College

The Lead: Juniors Adam Cowie-Haskell and Garrett Hardesty each scored two goals a piece to lead the Wesleyan University men's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Swarthmore College. 

  • The Cardinals got on the board first as Hardesty settled a bouncing ball and launched it into the right corner of the net for his first goal of the year at 11:10 in the first half.  
  • With 60:30 gone by in the game, Cowie-Haskell gave Wesleyan a two goal advantage as he took the Mike Gallo '20 pass it got it by the Garnet netminder Mike Thut. 
  • Swarthmore cut the Cardinal lead in half as Omodayo Origunwa set up Michael Nafziger for the header that found the back of the net at 66:28.
  • Hardesty would put Wesleyan back up by two at 79:09 with his second goal of the game, as he took a pass from Nick Miceli '17 and put it just of of the reach of Thut for the Cardinals third goal of the game.
  • Cowie-Haskell would seal the victory for Wesleyan with his second goal of the game at 83:20 as he took the pass across the box from Hardesty, and put the ball just inside the post to give the Cardinals the 4-1 victory.


  •  Jack Katkavich '17 earned the win in net for Wesleyan as he made four saves in the game.
  • The Garnet outshot Wesleyan 13-11, but the Cardinals held the edge in corner kicks at 3-1.


  • The Cardinals will return to the field on Tuesday, September 13 to take on John Jay at 7 p.m.
  • Swarthmore next takes the field on Wednesday, September 14 as they will host Eastern Connecticut State University at 7 p.m.
