MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Walker Harris, Chad Malinowski, and Tim Sestak, of the Wesleyan men's hockey team, have been named semifinalists for the 19th Joe Concannon Award announced by the president of the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston on February 7th. The trio are among 25players in the running for the award, presented annually to the best American-born NCAA Division II/III college hockey player in New England.
Junior forward Walker Harris has had an outstanding season thus far, as he leads the team in goals (15) and is tied for first with 10 assists. During Saturday's 2-1 OT Little Three Championship thriller against Williams, Walker notched a goal to tie the game 1-1 and send it into overtime with just 1:04 remaining in regulation. In NESCAC games only, he currently leads the league in the NESCAC in goal scoring (9), game-winning goals (5) and power play goals (3).
Senior defenseman, captain Chad Malinowski has been a huge playmaker for the Cardinals this season, recording 10 assists and one goal. On January 25th, Malinowski set Harris up for the lone-goal of a 1-0 triumph over Little Three rival Amherst.
Junior netminder Tim Sestak has had a phenomenal 2018-19 campaign, boasting a 12-2-2 overall record with a .956 save percentage, 1.31 goals against average and seven shutouts, which all rank second among DII/DIII teams. To date, Sestak has won three NESCAC Player of the Week accolades for his stellar performances, while ranking first in the conference for both goals against average (1.00) and save percentage (.967) in league play.
The Harris-Malinowski-Sestak trio has helped guide the Cardinals to one of the best seasons to-date. Following this weekend's Little Three title, Wesleyan is currently 12-0-2 in NESCAC play with just four games left, as it looks for its first-ever conference title.
The Gridiron Club will announce the finalists and winner of the 19th Joe Concannon Award in March, following league playoffs and before the start of the NCAA D-III Frozen Four. The award will be presented to the winner at the New England College Hockey Writers' Dinner in April.
