Men’s Hockey Edged by Plattsburgh State, 3-2

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – During a hard fought battle on Tuesday evening, the Wesleyan (7-3-3) men's hockey team was edged, 3-2, by Plattsburgh State (7-7-2).


  • Plattsburgh looked to get on the board 13:00 in, but Andrew Pizza's shot was denied by a glove save from Wesleyan's goaltender Tim Sestak.
  • The visitors had a great opportunity with 15:09 expired, but Ross Sloan's wraparound attempt was thwarted by Sestak, keeping the contest scoreless.
  • Wesleyan opened the scoring just 25 seconds later when Spencer Fox one-timed a pass from Tyler Wyatt to make it 1-0.
  • Wesleyan extended its lead to 2-0 with 41 seconds remaining in the opening frame. Tyler Levine sent a backward pass to Chad Malinowski in the high slot, before Malinowski found the back of the net.
  • Plattsburgh cut the deficit to 2-1 with 16:06 expired in the second period. Cole Stallard sent a long pass from the right side of the defensive zone, before Pat Egan tucked the puck under the crossbar from the doorstep.
  • The visitors came out of the break strong, finding the equalizer just seven seconds in. Christian DiFelice won the initial faceoff, before sneaking the puck past Sestak to make it 2-2.
  • Plattsburgh struck again at the 2:53 mark. DiFelice collected a rebound off an initial shot by Ryan Kuhn was denied by netminder Sestak. DiFelice's initial shot was denied, but he persisted and found the back of the goal to make it 3-2.
  • Wesleyan's only quality opportunity of the third period came during a power play at the 16:15 mark. Malinowski blasted a shot on goal, but Plattsburgh goaltender Lawson Fenton thwarted the change.


  • Sestak recorded 28 saves during the contest, while Lawson had 31 stops to pick up the win.


  • The Cardinals will entertain Connecticut College on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Tufts on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
