The Wesleyan Men's Ice Hockey team (0-1-3) played to a 3-3 tie against Stonehill College( 3-3-3) on Sunday night.
The Cardinals got off to a fast start as they scored 2 goals within a few seconds of each other. The first Wesleyan goal was scored with 5:23 remaining in the first period by Senior James Kline and was assisted by fellow Senior Jay Matthews. A few seconds later, with 5:14 left, Sophomore Jordan Jancze scored to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead. Jancze's goal was assisted by fellow Sophomore Dyan Holze. Wesleyan would take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Cardinals scored again with 10:24 remaining in the second to bring their lead up to 3 goals. Holze got Wesleyan a 3-0 lead with his goal, assisted by Freshman Chris White. Stonehill finally got one past the Cardinals goaltender, Junior Dawson Sprigings, with a goal by Senior Travis Army. Army's goal was assisted by Junior Brian Higgings and Senior Anthony D'Elia. The Cardinals went into the second intermission with a 3-1 lead.
Stonehill came back to tie the game in the third as they netted goals by Sophomore Tommy Newton, which was assisted by Senior Garrett White and Sophomore Connor Tedesco, and White followed with a goal of his own to tie the game at 3 with just over 12 minutes left to play. White's goal was assisted Newton. The teams would not score again as they played to a 1-1 tie.
Sprigings finished the game with 34 saves, while Stonehill's goaltender, Freshman William Palmer, finished with 41.
The Cardinals return to the ice Saturday December 5th at 7 p.m. on the road against Amherst. Stonehill next takes the ice on Tuesday December 1 against the Wentworth Institute of Technology at 7 p.m.
