Wesleyan’s historic 2019 season came to an end Sunday as men’s crew competed at the National Invitational Rowing Championship, in conjunction with the NESCAC Rowing Championships. The Cardinal’s Varsity Four boat highlighted the day as it finished third overall.
The Wesleyan men’s and women’s rowing teams will compete for the 2019 NESCAC Rowing Championships Sunday, May 12, which will be held at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The NESCAC Championship is awarded based on performance in the first varsity eight grand final race at the National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC).
Wesleyan men's crew, seeded No. 1 entering the 2019 New England Rowing Championships, won the Varsity 8 with a time of 6:08.275 at Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday and finished fourth overall in the team point standings with 60.60 points. It's the Cardinals fourth V8 win in program history (1967, 1987, 2004) as they claimed the Rusty Callow Trophy.
Wesleyan men’s rowing defended the Norm Graf Cup on Sunday morning by defeating Trinity and Connecticut College in the Varsity 8 and 2nd Varsity 8 races. The Cardinals finished third overall in both events, while claiming the Varsity 4 by a significant margin.
MAITLAND, Fla. – The Wesleyan men’s crew team opened the spring portion of its season with a trio of first-place finishes at the Spring Break Race hosted by Rollins College at Lake Maitland. The V8 (L>R in photo: Harrison Malec, Jimmy McShane, Dominic Sobieszek, Jack Sheffer, Theo Simko, Brendan Joyce, Ben Lynch, Luke Forsthoefel and Will Humphrey) beat the University of Florida, cruising to first place with a time of 5:48.1. The second V8 beat out two University of Florida boats, clocking in at 6:07.3. Wesleyan’s two boats were the only entered in the V4 “B” race as boat A placed first with a time of 6:50.6, while boat B completed the course in 6:57.7. The Cardinals will race again on March 30th when they host Coast Guard.
