Men’s Basketball Falls to Williams on the Road

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Wesleyan men's basketball team lost its first game of the season on Saturday night as the Cardinals were defeated by Williams on the road, 77-52.

After a close first half, the Ephs pulled away in the final 20 minutes of regulation. Wesleyan was led by Sam Peek's team-high 12 points as the Cardinals are now 3-1 overall. Matt Karpowicz led all players with 15 points as the Ephs improved to 3-1. Saturday's game did not count towards the NESCAC standings. 


  • Williams came out strong to start the game and scored the first seven points.
  • The Ephs took a 10-point lead four different times in the first 20 minutes but Wesleyan kept fighting back.
  • Trailing 36-26 with 4:17 to play, the Cardinals closed out the half on a 10-1 run as a 3-pointer by Preston Maccoux with 33 seconds remaining cut the deficit to one as the team's entered the break with Williams ahead, 37-36.


  • It was all Williams in the final 20 minutes of play.
  • The home team opened the half on a 15-0 run and never looked back.


  • Peek was joined in double-figures by Gabe Ravetz who scored 10 points off the bench. Maccoux led the team with seven rebounds and Peek dished out a game-high four assists while also grabbing five boards.
  • Joining Karpowicz in double-figures was Henry Feinberg and Jovan Jones with 14 points each. Karpowicz also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and Jones dished out four assists while recording two steals.


  • The Cardinals are back in action on Tuesday, November 26th as they play Eastern Connecticut State on the road at 6 p.m.
