The Wesleyan University men's basketball team has released its schedule for the upcoming 2018-19 campaign. Entering an 11th season under Head Coach Joe Reilly, this year's Cardinals look to continue to build on what was the most successful season in program history. In 2017-18, the Cardinals won a program record 22 games, hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championships, and were tied for the regular-season NESCAC title. Coach Reilly and the Cardinals aim to continue the momentum that has been built from NCAA Tournament appearances in three of the last four years, as well as three straight Little Three titles.
Wesleyan will face a 24-game slate and will play seven regular season games versus teams that were in the 2017-18 NCAA Tournament. The season will begin with the annual Herb Kenny Tip Off Tournament (sponsored by Red Lion Hotel in Cromwell) on November 16th and 17th. The tournament has been dedicated to legendary Coach Herb Kenny, who won over 300 games while at the helm for 27 years. Later in November, the Cardinals will face two teams who were in the NCAA Championships a season ago, including a November 25th contest against Eastern Connecticut State University in the friendly confines of Silloway Gym.
December marks the beginning of Little Three play, as the Cardinals host Williams on Saturday evening, December 1st. The Cardinals will wrap up the 2018 calendar year with a trip down south to the warm beaches of Miami for the HoopMIA Holiday Shootout. Wesleyan will face off against Penn State Harrisburg on December 18th at 2 p.m., followed by SUNY Plattsburg on December 19th at 4 p.m.
NESCAC play opens in January, as the Cardinals host Hamilton on Friday, January 11th followed by Little Three rival Amherst on Saturday, January 12th. Senior Weekend will be the Colby/Bowdoin match ups on February 8th and 9th.
