HADLEY, Mass. – The Wesleyan football team continues to rack up NESCAC weekly honors as sophomore wide receiver Matthew Simco earned the Offensive Player of the Week award and sophomore defensive back Danny Banks secured the Defensive Player of the Week laurel as the duo helped guide the Cardinals to a thrilling double-overtime win at Amherst yesterday, 31-28.

The NESCAC weekly laurels are career-firsts for Simco and Banks while they join quarterback Ashton Scott and kicker Mason Von Jess as previous award winners this season. Scott was named the NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week on September 29 while Von Jess received the award twice, on September 15 and October 13.

Simco shined on Saturday against Wesleyan's Little Three archrival. He hauled in five catches for a career-high 147 yards receiving, including two touchdowns. He scored the first TD of the game less than two minutes after kickoff as he caught a 36-yard pass from Scott. Later in the fourth quarter, with the Cardinals trailing by seven, Simco received a pass near the right sidelines and ran down the field untouched for a 62-yard game-tying touchdown to help send the game into overtime. He now has two 100-yard receiving games in the past three contests and is averaging 80.7 yards per game while hauling in six touchdowns.

Banks was a lockdown defender all day and recorded two interceptions, one pass breakup, and three tackles. His second interception came in the second overtime as he picked off Amherst's quarterback on the Mammoths' first play. It gave Wesleyan the opportunity to win the game as Von Jess sealed the victory with a 20-yard field goal. Banks is now tied for the league-lead in interceptions with four.

Wesleyan improved to 6-1 with the exciting road win and will return to action next Saturday, November 2nd to face its other Little Three foe, Williams. The Ephs are currently 6-1 as well. Kickoff for Saturday's Homecoming Weekend contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.
