MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Junior Taj Gooden of the Wesleyan football team has been named a 2019 D3football.com Preseason All-American and was selected Second Team Defense following a stellar sophomore campaign.
The defensive tackle from Brooklyn, N.Y. was named to the D3football.com All-East Region Team a year ago and was named First Team on defense. He was also an All-NESCAC First Team Defense selection and was a nominee for the Cliff Harris Award.
As a sophomore, Gooden led the conference in tackles-for-loss with 17.5 and finished second in the NESCAC with nine sacks. His nine sacks totaled 64 yards lost, which was a league-best. He finished the season with 35 tackles (3.9 per game), a forced fumble, a pass break-up, and a blocked kick.
Gooden and the Cardinals open the 2019 season on Saturday, Sept. 14 and will host Colby. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
