MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – For the first time in his collegiate career, sophomore Tanner Fulkerson of the Wesleyan University baseball team earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors on Monday, as he went 7-for-10 with a double, six runs and two RBIs during four games this past week.

Fulkerson, who hails from Longmont, Colo., is the fourth Cardinals' baseball player to be recognized with a weekly conference award during the 2018 season. Juniors Ryan Earle and Mike McCaffrey garnered Pitcher of the Week accolades on March 19 and April 9, respectively, while senior Matt Jeye was tabbed as Player of the Week on March 26.

Fulkerson went 2-for-2 with two singles and two runs scored during a 6-5 win in seven innings over Trinity in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday in Hartford, Conn. The Cardinals (21-14, 8-4 NESCAC West Division) rallied from a 5-3 deficit in the final inning, as the sophomore standout got the ball rolling with a leadoff single, and then cut the Bantams' lead to 5-4 on an RBI triple by sophomore Jesse Levy-Rubinett.

During an 8-7 non-conference setback at Western Connecticut State on Wednesday, he recorded a trio of singles during a 3-for-4 effort and scored two runs. Fulkerson, who excels in the infield and outfield, is maintaining an impressive .319 batting average this season, to go along with 38 hits, 32 RBIs (fifth most in the NESCAC), 25 runs and seven doubles.

Next on the agenda for Wesleyan is the double-elimination NESCAC playoffs on Friday-Sunday at Trinity College. The second-seeded unit from the West Division will compete in the opening game of the tournament against top-seeded Tufts from the East Division on Friday at 3 p.m.
