MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Junior Steven Chen of the No. 5 Wesleyan University men's tennis team has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for his excellence in the classroom and on the tennis courts.
The Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
The San Diego, Calif. native sports a GPA of 3.79 while majoring in Government and History, and has put together another excellent season on the courts, going 11-3 in No. 1 singles, en route to earning his second consecutive berth to the NCAA Division III Individual Championships, which will be held on May 25-27 at The Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.
As a team, Chen and the Cardinals have reached new heights this season as they earned their first-ever No. 1 seed in the NESCAC Tournament, along with their first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III Championships. Wesleyan also upset then-No. 1 Middlebury College on April 23, and will begin its postseason play on Saturday, May 13 at Johns Hopkins University.
